Quieter and more humbly beautiful work I do not know. |

Contemplative work with quiet mystery, presented with great skill. "My paintings are fragments of unknown narratives, stories steeped in atmosphere with characters that invite the viewer to speculate and identify. Drawn out of a love of all that evokes nostalgia my work is crafted from an acute admiration of the old masters in particular Caravaggio and Rembrandt and a keen interest in cinema, philosophy and literature. Mysterious work with dark humour and a particular stillness "It has always been essential that my work is accessible. However, in order to prevent superficial interpretations of the `pictures’, their realism is disciplined by form and composition, there are no obscure alternative `meanings’, each object represents only itself, and the temptations to use surrealism, obscure symbols or portentous images are avoided." |

An early and continuing influence on my work. |

I was born in London, England on October 26 1958, the youngest of four and much to my parent's surprise, I was born a dog. This unfortunate turn of events was soon accepted within my family and was never again mentioned in the presence of polite company. |

Some of the artistic issues I am exploring include: dimensional perception as viewed in a painting vs a photograph; the demarcations between photography and painting; perceptions of photographic truth; and introducing the artist's hand and imagination into the world of the literal photograph. What really drives my creative process, however, is the desire to evoke intriguing emotional narratives within beautiful photographs. The work explores humor, play, desire, loneliness, and melancholy. |
