THE AWAKENING (The increasingly doubting Thomas) The grounded figure is at the point of self examination, when he realises he is fundamentally not what he thought he was. In fact as he examines himself, the self turns out to be an empty construction, a phantom. In desperation, the phantom/former self wears a false nose to try and escape discovery, and the cunning little ego, already aware of what is happening, desperately abandons the scene, his thoughts and ideas scattering to the winds. He will of course return, when no-one is looking. But is his house doomed? |
