HIGHER THAN THE SUN This painting went through a few major changes in its development. At first the car was obviously a small model, set against a solid wall with life size flowerpots. After a disjointed floating woman appeared on the wall and disappeared, followed by an heroic pilot in an old mural, eventually the entire wall fell down, exposing the magical ocean scene which had been behind it all along. Suddenly one warm sunny morning, an ice-cream shop opened in one of the flower pots, seaside objects appeared, and a place was born where we would all love to be. It reminds me of a line from a poem by Robert Frost: "Something there is that doesn't love a wall, that wants it down." |
