The Ecstasy of Decay (Who can be ringing your doorbell at 2AM Herb?)
This painting raises a few legitimate questions. Like:
If it's 2am, why is it still light in the Australian desert?
Why is Dagwood having breakfast with his neighbour at 2am?
Was Dagwood really gay?
If Herb is cooking eggs, are they free range?
I don't have any answers sorry, but the background landscape came from a vivid dream I had
where I was wandering around a deserted town at sunset, overcome with pure ecstasy.
To me there is ecstasy in decay and emptiness, and the most beautiful towns are crumbling ones. When people vacate a town, it crumbles, leaving a great peace. Maybe when ideas and thoughts crumble, a great peace arrives also...
