HALF A QUARK
I am clearly no physicist, but this painting contains many elements from my life at the time; my then partner, the house she built, one of her donkeys, myself in two guises as photographer/observer and angry boy hurtling down a hill. The old man sees through the appearance of objects and time to the conceptual elements beyond. Yet he still appreciates a well made funky hat. Being looser in technique than much recent work, it provided a holiday from the demanding detail I usually employ to achieve that sense of space and clarity. The result is of course a greater sense of drama, movement and freedom, being important for an image where things were in a state of change and movement, as opposed to just being. click to enlarge |
