'Me and my brother George' (self portrait, aged 23'.) Oil on board

In this painting about overcoming fear, the figure (self portrait at 23) no longer has a fear of his dark side (his 'soul brother' the spindly dark figure with the sharp teeth.) Flowers bloom, the sky is blue, and a small aeroplane representing freedom, whirls through the sky. The figure laughs in the face of his dark side, feeling perhaps even pity for it. Still, on the hill remains a small shed with a dark doorway, indicating some unknown fears still exist in the background, and still farther away, a tiny speck on the horizon, is a cross, symbol of judgement and guilt overlooking the world, but now almost gone from his world.
