step 3 At this stage of a painting it is quite exciting, because you naively believe a masterpiece is definitely on the way. Blank canvas allows the imagination much freedom. In this case, I begin by squaring up the car from a photograph, as I want to make sure it is accurate to the real thing. I also have the model to work from, which I have previously photographed in the right light. The rest of the painting is drawn freehand. I alternate between freehand and squaring up, depending on how confident I feel which each particular subject, and on where I am taking the subject matter from. |
